Rain, Rain, Go Away!

Sorry that this is our first post on the blog, but what an incredible (and busy) first day we have had at Robinwood!

Before I dive into today’s adventures, I just want to say thank you for the fantastic send-off this morning (was that really only this morning?).

As always, I have to say what a wonderful group of Year 6 children we have with us on residential. After a slightly longer journey than expected — traffic and weather both trying to test our patience — we finally arrived in North Wales. Thankfully, the Robinwood staff worked their magic, shuffled things around, and made sure the children didn’t miss a single activity. They even managed to make the rain stop and the sun shine!

The children had just enough time to stretch their legs (and find the toilets!) before meeting their brilliant group leaders. Then it was straight to the first challenge: making their beds and sorting kit bags. I’m pleased to report that bottom sheets were wrestled on, pillowcases were stuffed, and duvets (eventually) made it into covers. Parents, you now have proof that they can make their beds at home!

After a well-deserved lunch, the children split into their groups for the start of four amazing activities.

Waterfall group led by James and myself took on the Dungeon, Archery, Zip Wire, and the Giant Swing. Highlights included teamwork in the Dungeon, brilliant focus on the archery range, and lots of screams of excitement (and a few nerves) on the big swings and zips. I may or may not have shown off some questionable dance moves as he soared down the zip wire — the children won’t let me live that down in a hurry!

Spring group under the watchful eye of Mr Ferguson, Mark and Tom battled their way through Archery, High Ropes, the Giant Swing, and the Dungeon. Not only did they show real perseverance on the high ropes, but they were also treated to the sight of Mr Ferguson absolutely flying through the air on the Giant Swing. The children’s laughter could probably be heard back in Leeds.

Stream group led by Miss Cuthbertson and Gav had an action-packed day with Night Line, Rock Climbing, Canoeing, and the famous Piranha Pool. There were blindfolds and teamwork on the Night Line, determination on the climbing wall, and lots of fun paddling across the lake — with Miss Cuthbertson gliding gracefully across the water to show everyone how it’s done. Of course, the Piranha Pool added plenty of drama and excitement… it was approached with excitement and some nerves. Had Mr Elliot been lying? Were there any piranhas? Is the water hot or cold? Do the Piranhas have teeth? Are the piranhas vegetarian? Well, not to spoil it for any younger siblings, Stream group all survived, however, they only just got out with only a minute to spare before they were the piranhas supper! I am sure the children will look forward to telling you all about it when they get home.

Throughout the day, the Robinwood staff couldn’t stop commenting on how polite, enthusiastic, and supportive the children were towards each other. The teamwork, resilience, and encouragement they showed was incredible, and as their teachers we honestly couldn’t be prouder.

By the time tea rolled around, everyone was ready to refuel. The children tucked into their meals with excellent table manners, and many went back for seconds. The ice cream for dessert was just what the children needed!

Even with tired legs and full tummies, the children powered through their final evening activities, showing the same positivity and determination they had all day. Then it was time for hot chocolate, biscuits, and bedtime routines.

As I type this, the children are tucked up in bed (hopefully fast asleep!) ready to be woken bright and early by the night ninjas tomorrow morning.

We are so proud of the children’s perseverance, courage, and teamwork today. Tomorrow promises another action-packed adventure, and we can’t wait to share more with you.

One final note before I sign off… I’ll definitely be needing a good night’s sleep because Waterfall group are starting tomorrow with raft building. Rumour has it that Powerhouse Points are on offer from Mr Cook if the children manage to sink a teacher. I just hope my waterproofs are up to the job!

Goodnight,

Mr E, Mr Ferguson & Miss Cuthbertson x

  8. That is a seriously busy day! Well done Year 6 for representing our school so brilliantly! ๐Ÿ‘
And as IF I would ever give you Powerhouse Points for pushing teachers into a cold and muddy lake… Honestly, I will be so disappointed (not really) and deeply upset (definitely not really) if that were to happen. Please, please don’t do it… it would be terrible to see the teachers dripping wet and shivering while you all laugh yourselves silly. What a dreadful idea. Absolutely awful. ๐Ÿ˜

Are we nearly there yet!

Thank you for a wonderful (slightly wet) send off from school (we did wave back). The children are settled and happily chatting, singing and playing card games. Our arrival time is roughly 11.45am at Robinwood, a slightly later arrival time after encountering some slow traffic and the wet weather not helping.  We will endeavour to keep the blog up to date as much as possible. I will always share any message/ comments left on the blog with the children as we know this is something the children really look forward to. Have a great day Mr E, Miss Cuthbertson and Mr Ferguson ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Do we have to go home tomorrow?!

WOW!! WOW!! WOW!! What a fantastic day! Just when you think our children could not be any more magnificent, they go and prove us wrong again! I must say this every year but if I had a pound for every time a member of Robinwood staff commented on what a marvellous group of children we have, I’d be rich enough to retire here in North Wales. The compliments about their manners, enthusiasm, and respect for each other and the staff have made us smile all day long. The day began with a glowing report from the famous Robinwood Night Ninjas. No midnight escapades or lively discussions this time — the children were brilliant throughout the night and woke up ready and raring to go. First stop: breakfast! With sausages, beans, cereal, toast, fruit, and the ever-popular hash browns, the children were more than fuelled up for the action-packed day ahead. The staff tucked in too, and I think it’s safe to say the meals have been amazing for both children and adults alike. The morning brought a w...
